Animals can sense changing weather patterns.
Have you ever felt changes in your body before the weather changes? Some people get headaches, muscle aches, or runny noses when the weather is changing rapidly. Major changes in the weather usually come with changes in the air pressure. This is what causes people aches and pain. Our bodies need time to get used to the changes, and this difference can make people uncomfortable.
Certain animals are especially sensitive to these changes. Every spring, there is an event in North America known as Groundhog Day. This is a day in early February when a groundhog comes out of the hole in the ground where it hibernated through the winter. The story goes that if a groundhog sees its shadow, there will be six more weeks of winter. On the contrary, if it doesn’t see a shadow, spring will arrive soon.
Animals can feel, hear, and smell minor changes in the environment better than humans. For instance, dogs and cats are very sensitive to sounds, and they can hear an approaching storm long before humans can. If you see your pet hiding under a covered area, it might be a good idea to bring your laundry inside.
